Logan Elm Band Earns “SUPERIOR” Rating at
OMEA State Marching Band Finals
Members of the
2008 Logan Elm High School Marching Band capped off their competitive marching
season by presenting a fantastic performance Friday evening October 31st at the
2008 OMEA State Marching Band Finals. The band definitely saved their best
performance for last as they gave their finest state finals performance in the
last few years earning them their third consecutive OMEA rating of “I” or
Superior at the state finals level. Earning a Superior rating represents the
highest honor OMEA awards a marching band. In caption adjudication the flag
corps and percussion sections were also rated Superior; this is the percussion’s
first state finals Superior rating since 1997 while the color guard has now
received three consecutive ratings of Superior at the state finals level. The
performance by the Band of Pride on Friday evening capped off an outstanding
season for the Marching Braves, which saw them earn four consecutive Superior
ratings at local events on their way to three first place finishes in Class B as
well as three Class B/C Grand Championships as well as numerous awards for Most
Outstanding Auxiliary, Most outstanding Percussion, and Most Outstanding Field
Commander with all groups receiving consistent OMEA ratings of
“I” or Superior. On this year’s band Mr. Chickrell
commented. “The band members have experienced an outstanding season. They have
accepted the challenges we have presented to them and achieved at a truly
superior level. I am so proud of each and every band member for their hard work,
commitment, and dedication to their continued pursuit of musical excellence.”
LEHS Band of Pride crowned Class B/C Grand Champions
On Saturday September 27, 2008 the Logan Elm High School Marching Band of Pride
participated in the 2008 Licking Valley Band Fest and the 2008 Zanesville
Bonanza of the Bands. The Marching Braves, coming off of their very successful
adjudicated performance at the Logan Elm Marching Band Classic where they
received a unanimous Ohio Music Education Association rating of “I” or Superior,
finished first in Class B at both events on their way to being crowned Class B/C
Grand Champions at both competitions. At the Licking Valley Band Fest the Band
of Pride finished first in Class B winning honors for Best Percussion and Best
Guard in Class B as well as being named Class B/C Grand Champions. At Licking
Valley the Marching Braves earned their second consecutive OMEA Rating of
Superior. Following lunch at Golden Corral the Band of Pride gave their most
outstanding performance of the year at the Zanesville Bonanza of Bands again
placing first in Class B and winning honors for Beat Guard and Best Field
Commanders in Class B. The Band of Pride was again named Class B /C Grand
Champions. In overall adjudication at Zanesville the Marching Braves finished
third regardless of classification and was honored with overall grand champion
awards for Best Visual Performance, Best Guard, and Best Field Commanders. At
the Zanesville competition the Band of Pride earned their third consecutive OMEA
rating of Superior. The band will conclude their regular competitive season this
Saturday with performances at the Watkins Memorial Mid-Ohio Classic and the
Thomas Worthington Preview of Champions. The band will perform in the 2008 Ohio
Music Education Association State Marching Band Finals in late October.
The Thirteenth Annual Logan Elm Marching Band
Classic
The
Thirteenth Annual Logan Elm Marching Band Classic was held on Saturday September
20th, 2008 in Logan Elm High School stadium. Sixteen outstanding high school
marching bands from across the state of Ohio participated in the competition,
which is sanctioned by the Ohio Music Education Association as an OMEA State
Marching Band Finals qualifying event. Any band receiving an overall rating of
“I” or Superior from the adjudicators qualifies to perform at the 2008 OMEA
State Marching Band Finals the weekends of October 24th and 25th and October
31st, November 1st and November 2nd. The Logan Elm High School Marching Band,
performing for OMEA ratings only, received a unanimous rating of “I” or Superior
qualifying them for their nineteenth trip to the OMEA State Marching Band Finals
in the past twenty-one years. In caption adjudication the Logan Elm Color Guard
and Percussion Section both were rated “I” or Superior.
